We strive to blend perspectives, generate knowledge, and restore ecosystems with engaged partners on interesting projects.

We focus on three core competencies.

  • Ecosystem restoration

We plan, execute, and evaluate the efficiency and efficacy of ecosystem restoration in boreal, mountain, and prairie ecosystems. Our goal is to daisy-chain successes to ensure impacted systems can recover ecosystem parts and processes, support expected ecological and cultural values, and deliver expected ecosystem services.

We target operational practices to address site limiting factors to promote recovery of desired vegetation composition, structure, and succession. We restore habitat conditions to reestablish desired animal behaviours, interactions, and population dynamics.

We provide full-cycle and piecemeal services to meet your goals and project needs ranging from the identification of restoration opportunities, targets, and prescriptions to developing, permitting, and implementing operational plans to training operators and supervising field operations to developing and executing the monitoring and evaluation of practices to ensure rapid and continuous improvement.

We specialize in working with community groups and First Nations to facilitate locally led restoration projects and to transfer knowledge to build internal capacity for long term and sustained success.

  • Ecological and spatial analyses

We evaluate plant and animal response to available habitat, human land uses, and landscape patterns in boreal and mountain ecosystems. Our goal is to use and blend various knowledge systems to deliver clear answers to complex questions and to offer practical guidance and to meet real-world management needs.

We focus on understanding species relationships and responses to habitat disturbances, the changing condition of land covers and disturbances over time, and whether land use practices meet their intended management goals. We use a variety of analytical tools, geographic information systems, and literature reviews to ensure results are accessible, and easy to understand for all stake- and rights-holders.

We design and implement research and monitoring programs around specific questions and goals; collect new data from the field and desktop analyses, and source existing data to use; and analyze, interpret, and report on project outcomes. We are happy to develop and execute projects to meet your needs and to assist in pieces of your ongoing research and monitoring programs and projects.

We work with a variety of clients and partners including governments, research entities, private companies, and local community groups.

  • Land use planning & negotiation

We support land use planning, land management decision making, and Government to Government (G2G) negotiations for collaborative and consensus based solutions. Our goal is to ensure all participants’ perspectives and ways of knowing are heard, respected, and incorporated into workable outcomes in working landscapes.

We support a variety of large and small efforts in a range of ways from generating data layers for use in landscape analyses to executing, interpreting, and iterating modelling runs, prioritizations, and scenario outcomes to evaluating current land use policy, practice, and guidance to offering technical guidance background for development of management plans and policy directives. We can support your needs both from the big picture goals to the nitty-gritty details.

We specialize in working with community groups and First Nations to ensure values, previous agreements, and Treaty Rights are respected and included in the next generation of policy decisions.
